My Mentor at the placement was extremely helpful in many different areas of my internship. They helped me a lot with work I was unfamiliar with and we talked a lot about a return to post-secondary school. They were very supportive of work I needed to complete for my diploma and were always friendly.

My mentor and the YMCA staff had a significant impact on me by helping me when I needed help and always being available for me when I needed to talk to them and by teaching me the things I need to do to better myself.

I was trying to look for a job that can keep me busy and learn more experience. But something I was doing wrong and I didn’t know what I was. So I heard about this program that will help me and get the experience I needed and help me mature, develop me working skills. 

I’ve been recognized by my mentor and management team as an efficient, reliable and hard working person and was given opportunities to take on special projects within the Strategic Services Branch such as: assuming a leading role in the migration to upgraded ATIP software where I assisted in training other staff on how to navigate the system; and I was designated as the co-chair for Canadian Cancer Society’s Daffodil Days Campaign where I canvassed staff, placed orders, collected money and distributed daffodils.

My mentor, along with all of the YMCA staff that were part of this program, were amazing in helping me figure out what I wanted to do with my life and in which direction I was headed to gain success in the future. I learned more about myself in this program than I have ever learned in school. 

A few parting words, I just wanted to briefly say how amazing this opportunity was and how very grateful I am for all the work experience. Elizabeth Sabine in Vancouver never gave up on me, and on behalf of YMCA, did all she could in getting me this internship.
