In May 2012, we signed up for a 16 week Digital Archivist Assistant @ City of Greater Sudbury Archives through the YMCA Digital Skills Youth Internship Program.  The paperwork was concise, straight forward, and well worth it.  Amanda helped advance an ongoing digitization project, bringing us much closer to our end goal, while at the same time was able to learn a great deal about archival practices, procedures, and technical software programs.  When Amanda left, she decided to further her education because of the work she was doing and enrolled in a Masters program at Ryerson University in Toronto!

Internships such as this one really do benefit both the host organization and the Intern.  The only improvement which could be made to the program would be to increase the length of the internship to allow for more experience.  A placement of six months or a year in length would provide enough additional experience to better position Interns as that  "ideal prospective employee candidate".
